Measured Surveys of St. Edmund's College & Prep School in Ware, Hertfordshire

Overview

Terrain Surveys were delighted to undertake a variety of measured surveys at the historic St Edmund’s College & Prep School in Ware, Hertfordshire. This independent day and boarding school was founded in 1568 and is the oldest continuously operating Catholic school in the country. We were pleased to work directly with St Edmund’s College to carry out surveys over a one-year period, causing minimal disruption to the daily operations of this historic college.

The Challenge

In order to support potential development, as well as to aid conservation efforts, we were instructed to undertake numerous measured surveys, including a topographical survey, measured building survey, utility survey and 3D Revit survey. The topographical survey would capture the many site features across the survey area, including building details, as well as service covers, street furniture and foliage. Once the topographical survey was complete, our utility survey team attended site to undertake a full utility survey which would map out all existing below-ground utilities. A 3D measured building survey was instructed, and our experienced team of measured building surveyors would use our 3D laser scanner to capture pointcloud data of the site. To ensure that we captured all roof details, our site team used an elevating tripod. Once the survey team had sufficient scan data, our in-house Revit technicians modelled the courtyard area of St Edmund’s College including modelling of the toposurface.

The Result

Terrain Surveys boasts two decades of experience supporting the Culture and Heritage sector and we were pleased to utilise this experience to ensure all measured surveys were delivered to the highest of standards and to the agreed timescale and budget. Working within this sector is particularly rewarding and we were therefore pleased to ensure that the St Edmund’s College & Prep School now holds a range of highly-accurate measured surveys to assist with potential development plans and to aid conservation.
