The Covid crisis has made life challenging for charities as their shops have been closed and restricted in what fundraising they can do. Like many businesses, we like to be able to support charities as much as possible whenever we can.
As part of our recent rebrand, we found ourselves with a massive volume of clothing that we could no longer use as we have changed our logo, colours etc.
We didn’t want these clothes to be just thrown away but didn’t want them to end up being worn by members of the public.
We found out that if we donated these clothes to a charity, they could sell them on to the rag trade, where they are cleaned and shredded and used for various fillings, including seats of cars.
We would recommend this type of solution to any business rebranding or having beyond use clothing. These don’t need to be thrown away; instead, ask your favourite charity shop if they accept rags. Bag them separately from other donations and mark the bag clearly ‘Rags’.
We collected 12 bin bags of everything from high visibility jackets to polo shirts. This weighed in at approximately 48Kg of clothing that has been saved from going into landfill. One of our Survey Managers, Nic, was happy to get all the clothing together and takes these to our local Garden House Hospice Care shop.
Garden House Hospice Care provides free specialist palliative care for patients, families and carers facing life-limiting illnesses from across North Hertfordshire, Stevenage and towns and villages in Central Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire, serving a population of around 230,000 people.
