CCTV Survey of Culverted Watercourse in St Neots, Cambridgeshire

Introduction
Terrain Surveys recently carried out a CCTV condition survey of a culverted watercourse located beneath industrial units on Cromwell Road, St Neots. Our client, an Industrial refurbishment company, got in touch to request a topographical survey, tree survey and a CCTV condition survey of the culvert. The site is currently in use as an industrial unit with plans for some construction redevelopment.
 

The Challenge
The site record information provided by the client described an 1800mm diameter culvert to be running under the site, but following initial inspection we found that once the watercourse culvert entered the site, there were two 1200mm diameter pipes. The location of one manhole access chamber was known and identified to our surveyors, but following our site investigations, there were two further access chambers located on the site. Using these access chambers the drainage culvert was surveyed using a camera crawler unit.
 

The Results
Each section of culvert was surveyed using the crawler unit, with various amounts of debris found to be in place and several displaced joints showing signs of water ingress. The sections surveyed showed no obvious structural defects, only suspended debris that could be cleaned to improve overall hydraulic efficiency.
The CCTV drainage report with a full list of defects and recommendations was issued to our client within two days of completing the site survey. 

Benefits delivered
Following a thorough investigation on site of all manhole access points and the culvert, it became clear that the culvert size and route was not as the existing site plans had stated. With our CCTV survey knowledge and experience our surveyors were quickly able to assess the real site conditions and provide a solution to our happy client.
