Our surveying experience spans gardens and landscapes of all sizes, from Capability Brown designed landscapes to gardens of the more typical family home. Working closely with garden designers and landscape architects since we were established in 2004 has allowed us to appreciate site features of interest to designers, particularly for residential garden design projects, which may not be appropriate when instructing a topographical survey for purposes other than garden design.
We now, as standard, measure all ground floor door and window positions and heights, as well as damp course levels and external water and power outlets. Other features of interest to designers, such as air bricks, external lighting and CCTV cameras, are also drawn. We appreciate that site context is key, and therefore, wherever possible, we measure window heights of adjacent properties, so that you can design with your clients’ privacy in mind. As well as the more traditional site features one would expect to find on a topographical survey drawing, such as level changes, trees and boundaries, we also look outside the survey area, such as to features at the property entrance, where we will normally include part of the road. Furthermore, we also provide a roof plan of the property for further site context.
Our experience and close relationships with many designers has allowed us to gain an appreciation of the garden design process, and we recognise that designers often tend to favour modelling software such as SketchUp and Vectorworks for their respective projects. We are therefore pleased to ensure that the drawings we deliver (which are presented in both 2D and 3D DWG format as standard) are optimised for this software.
