Identifying the root cause of any drainage problem is essential, but actually fixing the issue is where the real prize is; that’s why our CCTV drainage surveys are tasked with identifying these issues. Instead of leaving you high and dry with no solution, our drainage remedial team will repair these problems and keep your drainage system running freely! The following will run you through the steps of a drainage survey, reporting and identifying potential problems and recommended remedial works to resolve and fix the issues.
Following CCTV Drainage Surveys
Terrain Surveys have undertaken CCTV surveys in domestic, industrial and commercial sites; our CCTV drainage surveys utilise the latest in camera technology to ensure that the inspections are thorough and of the highest quality. As our remote-controlled and flexible rod systems are able to venture into the drains without much intervention, the need for survey engineers to enter drainage systems is reduced, though they are trained, certified and equipped to do so when need be. The CCTV report will then include an overview of the works undertaken, graded levels of noted defects, production of new or updating existing site plans and a list of proposed remedial repair recommendations following the survey.
CCTV surveys are an essential service as part of the maintenance of a functional drainage system as there is no way to understand what’s going on underground while simply standing on the surface. Once a camera is entered into the system you can then begin to see where any damage has occurred, from a build-up of scale, tree roots fat oil or grease it all becomes clear and outlines the required remedial works to put things right. It is from here that remedial services can begin to be planned and undertaken as required. Identifying the problems is the first stage, fixing the issues is the next and can it be resolved without excavating by incorporating the latest no dig methods of remedial repair? Drainage systems are designed to meet the site requirements and in most cases connect into the vast main sewer network that transports what we flush to a point of collection and treatment often miles away from where it first enters. From 0.1m to 80m deep drains are laid by design, if excavation is the only option for repair understanding the other potential apparatus within the ground from water supplies, telecoms, gas, electric cables and so on, all these services need to be mapped prior to doing so (no one appreciates a damaged service!). At Terrain our expert survey teams have experience and knowledge enough to manage whatever the project demands.
Benefits of Drainage Remedials
Drainage systems make up an integral part of a site’s infrastructure, and so its condition at any one time affects the functionality of the overall building or area. Remedial services exist as a post-survey response to the issues which have been recognised; these services directly evidence the value in surveying drainage systems as the ability to resolve these issues allows for years of improved functionality and prevent years of further potential deterioration.
Remedial services are not one-size-fits-all situation; as is the case with all our services, we will cater the service provided to align with the needs of your specific project, to ensure we are exclusively providing you with the exact services you require. The remedial services can respond directly to the recommendations made in the CCTV report, which may include:
- HPWJ desilting, root cutting/descale with specialized nozzles or simple cleaning
- Excavation & repairs, which can include trenchless technology
- Directional mechanical & HPWJ robotic cutting
- Structural-lining installation, available with various processes and methods
- Incorporation of utilities, topographical & CCTV data, which are separately surveyed, into one plan
Offering a One-Stop Shop solution approach to our survey services, means we can present this data as one solution, reducing costs and increasing the efficiency of the project. Having a concise plan containing both topographical, utilities and CCTV connectivity surveys as one with switchable layers, is always going to be better than managing data from multiple places.
Martin Hook’s Experience
Terrain Surveys boast a great number of experienced, expert staff whose combined knowledge we credit with much of our success; our drainage services are no exception. Martin Hook is our resident drainage expert; having worked alongside Terrain Surveys as a sub-contractor since the birth of the company, his relationship with Terrain Surveys and drainage services developed in unison. Martin’s depth of knowledge can be credited, in part, to his origins as a plumber turned civil engineer, which lead to him becoming a drainage engineer. His understanding of drains, hence, has developed from the ground up and he has gained experience from nearly every angle possible. Martin’s approach to drainage services is indicative of his years of growing and refining technique and knowledge as he is able to articulate to both experts and clients alike the intricacies of drainage systems, their potential faults, the necessity of keeping them in functional condition and what that condition actually means. When it comes to the systems that exist underground, a professional camera and an expert eye can mean the difference between long-lasting, functional drains and severe, expensive deteriorating ones, so some wise words to go by are, ‘If you can’t see it, you can’t fix it!’
