Overview
Terrain Surveys was commissioned to undertake a detailed topographical survey of a sports field in St Albans, providing the accurate site information required to support proposals for the development of new padel courts.
With padel continuing to grow rapidly in popularity across the UK, existing sports facilities and landowners are increasingly looking at opportunities to introduce dedicated courts and expand the range of activities available at their sites. As with any new sports development, having a clear understanding of existing ground levels, boundaries, structures and surrounding features is an important first step in the planning and design process.
Located close to Terrain Surveys’ head office, the site was ideally positioned for our team to respond quickly to the client’s requirements. We were able to provide a competitive quotation and mobilise at short notice, helping maintain momentum during the early stages of the proposed development.
Survey
Terrain Surveys deployed an experienced survey team to undertake a comprehensive topographical survey of the sports field, site boundaries and surrounding land. The entire fieldwork element was completed within a single day, enabling the client to receive the information required without unnecessary delay to the project programme.
The survey captured detailed terrain and level information across the site alongside existing boundaries, surface features and other relevant site characteristics. Extensive information was also recorded relating to the existing derelict buildings and structures located within the survey area, ensuring that the project team had an accurate understanding of the constraints and features that could influence future development proposals.
The captured survey data was subsequently processed to produce a detailed set of topographical drawings, providing a clear and reliable representation of the existing site conditions for use by the client’s wider planning and design team.
Results
The completed topographical survey provided the client with the accurate site information needed to support the next stages of the proposed padel court development. Detailed information relating to levels, boundaries, existing features and structures gives the project team a reliable foundation from which to assess the site and progress planning and design proposals.
Terrain Surveys’ proximity to the project enabled us to mobilise quickly, while efficient site operations allowed the fieldwork to be completed within a single day. The complete survey package was subsequently delivered within the client’s required programme and budget.
