CCTV Drainage Survey of Main Foul Sewer, Essex

Overview 

Our growing CCTV Drainage Survey team were instructed to undertake this CCTV condition / connection survey to a section of a public main foul sewer in Felstead, Essex for our Client, groundworks and civil engineering firm Construction Muzzy Ltd. 

This section of the sewer, which located in a verge bordering the main carriageway at the front of a large residential construction site, required our team to arrange and implement traffic management measures to ensure the survey could be undertaken safely. 

The Challenge 

Prior to the survey, we were provided with a plan which highlighted two of the three drainage covers to be surveyed were concealed, with our client advising that other contractors had tried to locate these buried covers for quite some time without success.  

Tasked with locating these buried covers, the Terrain Surveys team undertook electronic tracing from the accessible upstream chamber and swiftly located each respective cover using a Sonde and metal detector. Once located, we exposed each cover accordingly and were then able to undertake this CCTV drainage survey. 

Terrain Surveys used the latest tracing techniques and equipment to confirm the sewer location, with the exact line and level points marked onto the ground surface for the purpose of confirming excavation points for the new site drainage connections. 

The Result 

Once our site-based team had completed this CCTV condition survey, the information was reviewed and collated accordingly. We then provided a comprehensive report to our client detailing our findings, which included confirmation that the existing main sewer records supplied for reference were incorrect. 

Additionally, the survey identified that the main sewer contained multiple defects, including missing sections of pipework and partial collapses, all of which would require remediation. The footage captured by this CCTV drainage survey was passed to Anglian Water to review and instruct repairs accordingly.
