Topographical Survey of Paradise Wildlife Park, Hertfordshire
Introduction
Terrain Surveys recently went to the zoo with our surveyors having to work along side some wild animals including big cats. We were commissioned by architect Dearadh Zhu Ltd, who specialise in zoos and habitat landscape design, to carry out an extensive topographical survey. The Paradise Wild life Park is located in the Hertfordshire countryside near Broxbourne and has a range of exotic animals including tigers, leopards, wolves and monkeys.
The Challenge
The park made an interesting backdrop for our survey teams to work in, but they didn’t let the thrill of working next to big cats distract them. While not surveying within any of the animal enclosures the topographical survey included all public areas, paths and car parking areas.
Working with the park management, we agreed a work schedule to complete the survey work efficiently while causing minimal disruption to the public.
The Results
Working to the RICS specification for topographical surveys, our survey teams completed the site surveys using total stations. Survey control was related to the Ordnance Survey national grid using GNSS survey equipment.
From the processed data a comprehensive set of 2D CAD topographical survey drawings was delivered to the client to agreed timescales.
