Terrain Surveys 3D Laser Scanning Brings 19th Century Simon Community Building into the 21st Century

129 Malden Road, Camden is the very heart of the Simon Community.  It was the first residential property opened by the charity dedicated to alleviating the isolation of people sleeping rough.  The five story terrace building currently provides outreach services alongside living spaces for both volunteers and residents.

To ensure the building can operate more efficiently, a major refurbishment is planned to upgrade the condition of this 19th century building.  To enable the specification for this ambitious refurbishment, Terrain Surveys 3D Laser Scanning used the latest surveying techniques of 3D laser scanning to produce 3D pointcloud files of the building interior and exterior. Digital photographs captured of the building were mapped onto the pointcloud to produce full colour photo-realistic 3D data, as illustrated in the above images.

The laser scanning data was incredibly detailed and will aid visualisation, measurement and estimating and will prove invaluable in the refurbishment process.

Using the pointcloud data a full set of 2D CAD floor plans, elevations and sections were provided in order to help the charity plan the improvements needed to the building.
