Topographical Survey at Hertfordshire Zoo
OVERVIEW
Terrain Surveys were pleased to be invited back to Hertfordshire Zoo, previously known as Paradise Wildlife Park, to undertake a topographical survey ahead of works to a primate habitat. Hertfordshire Zoo, which was opened in the 1960s, remains a hugely popular attraction and is home to over 800 animals.
THE CHALLENGE
The topographical survey was instructed in order to accurately locate the pillars and posts within the Gibbon habitat in order to support a new mesh roof, and a team of two of our topographical surveyors made the short journey from our Welwyn head office in early 2024 to undertake the survey. As well as locating the pillars and posts, the topographical survey drawing would show all features within the habitat, such as fences and level changes. Working directly with the zoo management team, were tasked with delivering the survey swiftly in order to meet strict deadlines. We were pleased to accommodate, with our site-based team completing the survey in a single day and delivering the drawing just a few days later.
THE RESULT
Terrain Surveys were able to call upon two decades of experience in working with the leisure sector to ensure that this topographical survey was delivered, in 3D DWG format, within budget and to the zoo’s strict deadline. Working within zoos and other cultural attractions is particularly rewarding, and we were pleased that our survey would play a role in making the Gibbon’s habitat a success.
