Ipswich Leisure and Culture Buildings Benefit from Laser Survey by Terrain Surveys

Regent Theatre, a Grade II listed building, is East Anglia’s largest theatre with seating for over 1,500 people and host to performances by major artists. Christchurch Mansion, shown in the pointcloud image above, is a famous landmark in central Ipswich and houses a museum showcasing paintings by Constable and Gainsborough. Working to a detailed specification, a full measured survey was undertaken at both sites to provide a comprehensive, as-built record including positions of all windows, doors, hatches, exposed beams, roofs, soffits, gulleys, floor and ceiling height changes. All structural details as well as fittings, floor finishes, locations of major ductwork and incoming electrical services and mains panels were detailed on 2D plan, section and elevation drawings. The surrounding area was also surveyed, including adjacent buildings, drainage position and details, roads, pavement and kerb positions, walls, fences, railings, trees, street furniture and overhead cables.

Stuart Oxborrow, PM at Castons, who managed the project on behalf of Ipswich Borough Council said “Terrain Surveys have produced highly detailed drawings for some of IBC’s corporate buildings in Ipswich. Having accurate plans for the designers helps us to develop designs quickly with the designers appointed for these high profile refurbishment projects.”
