Measured Building Survey in Covent Garden, London


In the heart of bustling Covent Garden in London, the Terrain Surveys team were tasked with undertaking a measured building survey of a two-storey penthouse apartment in the ever-colourful Neal’s Yard for our client, Fresson & Tee Chartered Surveyors.  

The Challenge 

A tourist hot-spot, Neal’s Yard is home to an array of independent businesses, restaurants and cafes, with its narrow streets adding to the area’s unique charm. Such a central location does present challenges, which saw our measured building survey team navigate this bustling street with our state-of-the-art 3D laser scanner while minimising disruption to businesses and visitors alike.  

Elevations of the penthouse apartment (and the building which it sits within) were requested, along with sections of the wider Neal’s Yard area. The site has many oblique angles with closely-spaced buildings, so an elevating tripod assisted with the laser scanning, enabling the team to gain good vantage points to capture sufficient pointcloud data of the building and surrounds.  

Internally, we were to produce highly detailed floor plans of both storeys, along with associated common parts to the second floor, as well as two terraced areas which were accessible from the penthouse. All relevant internal features were measured, such as door heights, structural walls and sanitary fixtures.    

The Outcome 

Able to call upon two decades of experience in undertaking measured building surveys in busy central London locations, Terrain Surveys successfully delivered the floor plans, elevations and sections to the agreed timescale and within budget. This measured building survey was delivered to our client in 2D DWG format.
